    History of the Ranch

Originally homesteaded in the early 1800s, Deer Creek Valley Ranch was a bustling stagecoach stop between Fairplay and Denver, reportedly running 6-9 coaches through it per day.

The iconic Barn was built in 1862.  To give a sense of perspective, that is when Abraham Lincoln was president!  The adjacent cottage was the first Post Office to serve this local community through the early 1920s.

Through the years, the Ranch has witnessed destruction and restoration.  It has been a boating association, a working cattle ranch, and a gentleman’s summer retreat. After changing hands through different owners, and after years of loving attention, renovation and upgrades, DCVR hosted its first wedding in 2011.
